Sheraton Imperial Hotel - 4700 Emperor Blvd · I-40 At Exit 282 (Page Rd) · Durham, NC 27703

TightLines attended the first annual Durham Conference on Housing, whose purpose was to "bring together the latest information on financing models, legislative changes and innovative thinking to help housing advocates from both public and private sectors to move forward together."  Keynote speaker Chris Estes, Executive Director of the NC Housing Coalition, gave a great overview of affordable housing basics and described housing as the hub of a community wheel.  Housing issues are directly tied to schools, public health, workforce recruitment, transportation, open space, homelessness, seniors, and disabled citizens.  Other Durham leaders including Mayor William V. Bell lent their expertise and gave perspective on housing issues local to Durham that can be translated to the national picture.
