Earlier this week Becca had the pleasure of meeting NC Governor Josh Stein as he toured our Whitney I house here in Raleigh. Governor Stein spoke about homes being a source of stability and an anchor in the community, and we could not agree more!

The featured Whitney I on South Person Street is the first of 25 units under construction as part of the “Promise 25” initiative, led by Southeast Raleigh Promise and the City of Raleigh. Promise 25 will provide 25 affordable rental homes in three forms: a single family home, duplexes, and accessory dwelling units (ADUs). They will be specifically available to residents at various levels of affordability: at or below 30% area median income (AMI); at or below 60% AMI; and at or below 80% AMI. Learn more about Raleigh’s AMI levels here.

Additionally, this joint venture is building on infill lots in southeast Raleigh and takes advantage of zoning opportunities such as the Frequent Transit Development Option and the City’s Missing Middle policy. For the units on Gregg Street, this allowed us to increase the density and build three units per lot – a duplex and an ADU – where previously only one stand-alone house would have been permitted. Similarly, our Fisher Duplex was recently completed on a single lot along Edenton Street, and there will be two more duplexes on two lots along MLK Blvd.

Stay tuned for more updates as we’re finishing up design on the MLK Blvd duplexes, and starting construction on the Gregg Street duplexes and ADUs!

We are proud to be working with a strong development team – click on the links below to see the great work they’re all doing!
